Ceremony in the Palace of Belém
The President of the Republic decorated, with several grades of the Portuguese Honorific orders, individualities from the Madeira Autonomous Region who had stood out in the fulfilment of regional and national public office.
Those decorated were Dr. Alberto João Jardim, former President of the Regional Government (Grand Cross of the Military Order of Christ), Dr. Miguel Mendonça, former Speaker of the Regional Parliament (Grand Cross of the Order of Prince Henry the Navigator), Dr. Bernardo Trindade, former Secretary of State for Tourism (Grand Officer of the Order of Prince Henry the Navigator), Dr. Guilherme Silva, former Deputy Speaker of Parliament (Grand Officer of the Order of Prince Henry the Navigator), and Dr. Manuel Correia de Jesus, former Member of Parliament and former Secretary of State of the Portuguese Communities (Grand Officer of the Order of Prince Henry the Navigator).
The President of the Republic delivered an address at the ceremony.
