The Presidency of the Republic addressed a letter to the Board of Directors of RTP (Radio and Television of Portugal) concerning the transmission of the Commemorative Ceremonies of the National Day of Portugal, of Camões and of the Portuguese Communi

In a letter addressed today to the Board of Directors of the company Radio and Television of Portugal, the Presidency of the Republic questioned the manner in which the Commemorative Ceremonies of the National Day of Portugal, of Camões and of the Portuguese Communities were transmitted, in RTP’s Channel 1.

Considering the specific responsibilities inherent to the rendering of the public service in regard of television, the break in the transmission of those ceremonies is totally out of context, not in accordance with long established practice and without any justifiable programming reasons.

Contrary to what has been the use in previous years, the procedure adopted by the public television channel hindered the Portuguese people and the Portuguese Communities spread around the world, to follow in full the commemorative ceremonies of June 10, a fact that the Presidency of the Republic considers as totally unacceptable.
