Training operation off the Cascais coastal area
The President of the Republic attended a Search & Rescue training operation, conducted jointly by the Navy and the Air Force.
In the Centre of Naval Operations, installed in the Oeiras Naval Command, President Aníbal Cavaco Silva attended a presentation of the National Search & Rescue System and later, in a EH 101 helicopter, witnessed the training rescue operation of a shipwrecked person and the recovery of a ship’s crew member, jointly with naval means.
At the Naval Command, the President and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces viewed an exhibition of the means used in Search & Rescue operations, contacted with the involved members of the Armed Forces and spoke with people rescued from shipwrecked situations, including a foreign national.
Accompanying the President of the Republic in this training operation were the Minister for National Defence, the Chief of the Armed Forces General Staff and the Chiefs of the Navy and Air force General Staffs.
