Ceremony in the Palace of Belém
The President of the Republic has empowered the new members of the Councils of the Portuguese Honorific Orders – of the Ancient Military Orders, of the National Orders and of the Orders of Civil Merit.
Following the empowerment, the Councils are now constituted as follows:
Council of the Ancient Military Orders - Chancellor: Lieutenant General Vasco Joaquim Rocha Vieira; Members: General Gabriel Augusto do Espírito Santo, Colonel Fernando Gil Almeida Lobato de Faria, Ambassador José Gregório Faria Quiteres, Dr. João Maurício Fernandes Salgueiro, General (Air Force) Jorge Manuel Brochado de Miranda, Admiral José Manuel Garcia Mendes Cabeçadas, Dr. José Júlio Pereira Cordeiro Blanco and Professor Maria Olga Douwens Prats.
Council of the National Orders - Chancellor: Dr. Maria Manuela Dias Ferreira Leite; Members: Professor Doctor José Veiga Simão, Professor Doctor Manuel Jacinto Nunes, Dr. Isabel Maria de Lucena Vasconcelos Cruz de Almeida Mota, Professor Doctor Maria Alzira Seixo, Dr. António Gomes de Pinho, Professor Doctor Elvira Maria Correia Fortunato, General Amadeu Garcia dos Santos and Professor João José de Sousa Bonifácio Serra.
Council of the Orders of Civil Merit - Chancellor: Ambassador António de Oliveira Pinto da França; Members: Ambassador Gonçalo Aires de Santa Clara Gomes, Ambassador João Alberto Bacelar da Rocha Páris, Professor Doctor Fernando António de Miranda Guedes Bianchi-de-Aguiar, Dr. Maria João Espírito Santo Bustorff Silva, Professor Doctor Francisco Xavier Miranda de Avillez, Professor Doctor António Manuel Seixas Sampaio da Nóvoa, Dr. Leonor Freitas and Dr. Vasco Maria Guimarães José de Mello.
