Arrival at the Palace of Belém
After taking his oath of office in Parliament, the President of the Republic headed for the Palace of Belém, where he was received with military honours presented by the Presidential Squadron of the National Republican Guard, and the compliments of the members of his Civil and Military Staff as well as those of the Presidential staff.
The Secretary General of the Portuguese Honorific Orders, on the occasion, presented President Aníbal Cavaco Silva with the Sash of the Three Orders, an insignia for the exclusive use of Heads of State.
Later, the President of the Republic hosted a reception, in the Palace of Belém, to a number of guests from the whole country.
