Santarém awards the City’s Gold Medal to the President of the Republic

The Mayor and Councillors of Santarém unanimously decided to award the City’s Gold Medal to the President of the Republic, Aníbal Cavaco Silva, as part of the programme of the Commemoration of the National Day of Portugal, Camões and the Communities, which will be held on 9 and 10 June.

During the Official Welcoming Ceremony which will take place on 9 June, at 11:00 hours, in the City Hall, the President of the Republic will be awarded the highest honour of the City of Santarém.

The County Council stressed the fact that this will be the very first time that the City’s Gold Medal is awarded to a democratically elected President of the Republic.
