In the terms of the Constitution of the Republic and of the legislation currently in force, the President of the Republic received today the Minister of Justice for the award of the traditional reprieves at this time of the year.
Consideration was given this year to 617 requests for reprieve.
Considering the opinions of the Magistrates of the Penal Courts, of the Directorate General of Prisons, of the Directors of the Prison Establishments and of the Directorate General of Social Reinsertion, and in accordance with the procedures examined by the Ministry of Justice, the President of the Republic decided to grant six reprieves – five of which for partial reduction of prison terms and one to revoke a sentence of expulsion.
Humanitarian and social reinsertion motives, as well as the efforts developed by the requesting parties, were the bases for the award of the above merciful measures.
