Welcome greetings from President Ramos Horta

Welcome greetings from President Ramos Horta

President Cavaco Silva in East Timor for the 10th anniversary of its independence and State Visit

The President of the Republic arrived in Dili, at the invitation of the Timorese authorities, to take part in the commemorative ceremonies of the 10th anniversary of the independence of East Timor, in the empowerment of the new President, Taur Matan Ruak, and to hold a State Visit.

Upon arrival at Nicolau Lobato Airport, President Aníbal Cavaco Silva was presented with the traditional Tais and received by a group of children singing Timorese songs.

The retiring President of East Timor, José Ramos Horta, welcomed the President of the Republic and Mrs. Cavaco Silva.

The roads connecting the airport to the city centre were crowded with people waving Portuguese flags and scarves with Portugal’s name.
