The President of the Republic and Mrs. Cavaco Silva carry out a State visit to Mozambique between 24 and 26 March, at the invitation of the Mozambican President, Armando Guebuza.
The main objectives of the visit are to strengthen the good political and friendly relations between both countries, through the promotion of a new cycle of economic and entrepreneurial cooperation, as well as valuing the common cultural heritage and by emphasizing the global strategic value of the Portuguese language.
The President of the Republic will be accompanied in this visit to Mozambique by the Ministers of State and Foreign Affairs, National Defence, Education and Culture, as well as by the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation and the Secretary of State for Trade.
In addition to the meetings he will hold with the Mozambican Head of State, President Aníbal Cavaco Silva will address a speech to the Mozambican Parliament, be awarded the key to the City of Maputo in a ceremony to be held in the Municipal Council of the capital and will also meet several Mozambican individualities.
Presidents Cavaco Silva and Armando Guebuza will attend the closing ceremony of the Economic Seminar and Meeting between Entrepreneurs from Mozambique and Portugal, this to be followed by the official opening of an exhibition on the topic “Portugal Innovation”.
A Luso-Mozambican seminar with the theme “Portuguese-Global Language” will take place in the Cultural Centre of Eduardo Mondlane University, at the opening of which a speech will be delivered by the President of the Republic.
On the last day of the visit, President Cavaco Silva will travel to the Island of Mozambique, in the north, and will complete the programme, once again in Maputo, with a visit to the Portuguese School and with a gathering with the Portuguese Community resident in the Country.
During a reception which the President of the Republic will host in honour of his counterpart President Armando Guebuza, there will be a performance by singer Maria João accompanied by pianist Mário Laginha, who will also hold a free concert for the City of Maputo on the first day of the presidential visit.
