The President of the Republic and Mrs. Cavaco Silva are travelling to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan on February 17 and 18, at the invitation of His Majesty King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein, the first official visit of a Portuguese Head of State to that Country.
President Cavaco Silva will be accompanied by the Minister of State and Foreign Affairs and by a deputation of Portuguese entrepreneurs.
During his stay in Jordan, the Head of State will maintain contacts with King Abdullah II, as well as with Prime Minister Nadar al-Dahabi and other local authorities. These meetings will be an opportunity to assess the relations between the two Countries and the means of their being strengthened, as well as the situation in a region of utmost importance for world peace and stability, in which Jordan has a central role. It should be recalled that Portugal has a Military Engineering Company numbering 146 officers and men, in Shama, southern Lebanon, included in the United Nations Forces, UNIFIL:
In the last day of the visit, the President of the Republic will preside at the closure of a Seminar on the promotion of economic relations between Portugal and Jordan, in which Portuguese and Jordanian entrepreneurs will participate. Later, the President will visit Petra Old City, one of the New Wonders of the World.
On the way to Jordan, the President of the Republic will make a stop in Cyprus, where he will maintain contacts with the Cypriot President, Tassos Papadopoulos.
