The President of the Republic addressed a message of condolences to the Society of Jesus and to the Family of Father Luis Archer.

Following is the text of the message of condolences addressed by President Aníbal Cavaco Silva:

“In my own personal name and on behalf of all the Portuguese I address our deepest condolences to the Society of Jesus and to the Family of Father Luis Archer, to whose memory, both as a scientist and a churchman, I render my tribute.

Due to his intense activity in the Academy, where he pioneered teaching and research in Molecular Biology, as well as in his work on Bioethics, Luis Archer leaves an indelible marker in our society.

His passing away is thus a very deep loss, not just for all who were acquainted with him, but also for all those who share his ideals on knowledge and humanism, for which he always battled.
