The President of the Republic addressed a message to King Dom Juan Carlos on the occasion of the National Day of Spain.

Following is the text of the message sent by President Aníbal Cavaco Silva:

“Majesty,
My Dear Friend,

On the occasion of the celebrations of the National Day of Spain, I am particularly pleased to address Your Majesty, on behalf of the People of Portugal and in my own personal name, our warmest congratulations, begging that you accept my very friendly wishes for Your Majesty’s personal well being and that of Her Majesty Queen Dona Sofia and of all the Royal Family, as well as for the prosperity and increasing progress of the People of Spain.

I want, on this occasion, to reiterate to your Excellency my firm purpose in the continued strengthening of the bonds of friendship that link Portugal and Spain, in order that both may take full advantage of the many opportunities in cooperation that are offered us in the most diverse areas.

Hoping to have the honour of an early meeting with Your Majesty, I beg you to accept my highest regard and personal esteem.
