The President of the Republic addressed a message of condolences to Dom Manuel Clemente, Bishop of Porto, upon the decease of Dom Júlio Tavares Rebimbas, Bishop Emeritus of Porto.

Following is the text of the message addressed by President Aníbal Cavaco Silva:

“It was with great regret that I learnt of the passing away of Dom Júlio Tavares Rebimbas, Bishop Emeritus of Porto, an outstanding figure of the Portuguese Catholic Church, a prelate who distinguished himself by his great wisdom and as a notable clergyman.

In this hour of mourning for all those who had the privilege of being his friends, I address my heartfelt condolences to the Porto Diocese and all its faithful followers.
