The President of the Republic addressed a message of condolences to his Chilean counterpart Michelle Bachelet over the victims of the earthquake which occurred in Chile today.

Following is the text of the message addressed by the President of the Republic:

"Madam President, Dear Friend,

Deeply affected by the tragic effects of the earthquake that devastated Chile at dawn today, I address Your Excellency, on behalf of the People of Portugal and in my own personal name, our feelings of greatest regret, begging you to transmit to the families of the deceased the expression of our sincere condolences and heartfelt sympathy.
