The President of the Republic addressed a message of regret to the President of the Republic of Haiti, René Préval, concerning the earthquake occurred in the country.

Following is the text of the message:

“Mister Present,

Deeply disconsolate with the tragic news of the terrible earthquake occurred in your Country, which resulted in numerous fatal victims, thousands of displaced people and enormous material losses, I wish to express to Your Excellency, on behalf of the People of Portugal and in my own personal name, our deepest regrets and feelings of heartfelt solidarity.
