The President of the Republic addressed a message of condolences to the Family of Dr. Nélio Mendonça.

Following is the text of the President’s message:

"Upon being advised of the passing away of Dr. Nélio Mendonça I address my deep condolences to his Family.

At this time of mourning, it is with heartfelt feelings that I pay tribute to the former Speaker of the Madeira Parliament and Member of the European Parliament, an individuality who deserves the respect and esteem of all the Madeira Autonomous Region, for his dedication to the public interest and commitment to the defence of regional autonomy and the well being of the people of the archipelago.
