The President of the Republic addressed a congratulatory message to the President elect of the Republic of Panama, Ricardo Martinelli.

Following is the text of the message:

“On the occasion of Your Excellency’s election as President of the Republic of Panama, I wish to address you, on behalf of the People of Portugal and in my own personal name, my heartiest congratulations and wishes for success in accomplishing the high office you have been called upon to fulfil.

I am certain that, in the exercise of Your Excellency’s mandate, we will find renewed opportunities to deepen yet more the historical bonds of friendship and close cooperation which link our two countries, either bilaterally or within the scope of the Iberian-American Community of Nations, to the benefit of our Peoples.

Renewing my sincere best wishes I beg you to accept, Mister President, the expression of my highest consideration and personal esteem.
