On behalf of all the Portuguese and in my own personal name I wish to congratulate you for having been awarded the “Gold Ball” by the France Football publication, which distinguished you as the world’s best player in 2008.

This important trophy adds on to the extensive and relevant collection of awards you have received as a football player, both in Portugal and abroad, which has greatly aided the international projection of Portuguese sports activities.

Such a honourable distinction will equally contribute to giving greater value to sports amongst us, and consequently a significant incentive for many young Portuguese athletes.
