Naval Operations in Tróia and Pinheiro da Cruz

President of the Republic visits the Navy and attends naval operations

The President of the Republic carried out a visit to Navy facilities, and witnessed a demonstration of capabilities in the range of energy security, which took place in a joint training operation of the projection capacity of Naval forces.

Accompanied by civilian and military officials and other officers of State agencies and bodies involved in the operation with the capabilities and competences to intervene in the area of energy security, the President of the Republic witnessed a demonstration of the capabilities of the Navy in an inter-agency joint operation, as well as a landing exercise with field tactical manoeuvres.

With this visit the President of the Republic intended to find out if the Country is prepared to react to an ever growing type of threat related to energy security. He was also able to witness that the advantages resulting from a coordinated and integrated action of the several public bodies and State agencies and the synergies deriving from the existing capabilities of the Armed Forces, specifically in the case of the fight against terrorism and trans-national threats, can be the source of a relevant added value for Portugal.

The visit was also useful for the President of the Republic to become aware of the state of preparedness and projection capacity of the Naval forces.
