Armas da Escola de Sargentos do ExércitoDescription

  • Nine piece chevron shield in green and gold;
  • Silver military helmet, lined in red, three quarters to the right;
  • Red strap profiled in gold;
  • Helmet foliage and trumpet ring in green and gold;
  • Blazon: Two halberds in gold crossed over, tied in green, supporting, from the first, an oil lamp with two flaming jets;
  • Motto: On a waving white ribbon, placed under the blazon, in black capitals, in “elzevir” format, “WILL AND KNOWLEDGE”.

Symbolism and Allusion of the Pieces

  • The chevron, which invokes the NCOs’ badges, is the symbol of the School where this rank is trained, a fundamental link in the structure of the Army.
  • Two halberds on the blazon – “His weapon is a halberd which is also his badge” can be read in the classic popular saying which refers to the rank of Sergeant – and the “oil lamp with two flames” invoking the twofold training – basic and perfecting – which is the mission of this School.

The Meaning of the Enamels

  • GOLD: the continuing effort essential to obtain knowledge;
  • GREEN: the keenness of the candidate’s youth and the hope for progression in the career.
