Unit’s Coat of Arms

Brasão da Unidade de Engenharia 3 / UNIFILBlack escutcheon, silver cedar, accompanied by three golden bees.
Military silver helmet, lined in scarlet, facing three quarters to the right.
Gold braided scarlet belt.
Black and silver foliage and ferrules.
Armorial Bearings: Two interlaced black dolphins.
Motto: In an undulating silver band, under the escutcheon, in elzevir style capitals: “PER ARDUA SVRGO”.

Symbols and Allusions of the Parts

The BLACK in the field recalls the stretch of land bordered by the rising waves and by the mountain ranges, which trim its horizon.
The CEDAR represents the traditional and thick green covering of the Lebanon. Densely rooted and resisting the inclemency of the weather, this tree resembles the labours left by UnEng3/FND/UNIFIL in that country, “The Cedar Country”.
THE BEES, acting jointly, represent labour and discipline. Their number is that identifying the Unit.
The interlaced DOLPHINS are an allusion to Espinho Council and to the Regiment of Engineers No. 3, the base for the readying of UnEng3/FND/UNIFIL. Considered since Ancient times as Man’s allies, dolphins carry us back to the loyalty with which they render help to the needy, allied to a deep knowledge of the surrounding environment.
Motto: “PER ARDUA SVRGO”, (Through difficulties I am raised), evokes the spirit that infuses the personnel of UnEng3/FND/UNIFIL.

Enamels signify

GOLD, firmness and knowledge;
SILVER, hope and eloquence;
BLACK, constancy in adversity and precaution
