Ceremony in the Imperial Palace in Rio de Janeiro
At the invitation of the Mayor of Rio de Janeiro, César Maia, the President of the Republic attended various commemorative acts of the bicentenary of the arrival of the Portuguese Court in Brazil.
Received wit Military Honours, the President attended, in the refurbished Church of Our Lady of Carmo, a concert performed by the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra, which played the “Mass of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception”.
This was followed, also in the same Church, by a “son et lumiere” show depicting the arrival of King João VI in Rio de Janeiro, after which Mayor César Maia hosted a dinner in honour of the President of the Republic, held in the former building of the Imperial Palace. On the occasion President Cavaco Silva delivered a speech.
