The President of the Republic was welcomed in Vila do Porto County Hall, on the Island of Santa Maria, at the beginning of his visit to the Azores Autonomous Region.

After having taken a walk around the town’s streets, President Aníbal Cavaco Silva visited the Dalberto Pombo Environmental Interpretation Centre, and later headed to the Municipal Library where he attended a presentation of the Strategic Plan for the Development of Santa Maria, prepared by Prof. Augusto Mateus.
