At the beginning of a visit to the Autonomous Community of Catalonia, the President of the Republic, in Barcelona, met with Portuguese nationals resident in that Spanish region, in an event that included several generations.

Long term residents, entrepreneurs, senior staff of local corporations, artists, young researchers and students, all took part in the event, during which the President addressed a few words to the members of the Portuguese Community in Catalonia.

The event was preceded by a tribute paid by President Aníbal Cavaco Silva to the Portuguese film director José Maria Nunes, considered as one of the founders of the Barcelona School (of cinema), who was awarded the decoration of Grand Officer of the Order of Sant’Iago da Espada.

Immediately upon his arrival in Barcelona, in the very first part of his programme, the President of the Republic granted an audience to the Spanish Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Miguel Ángel Moratinos.
