Leaders debated the Portuguese language

CPLP Heads of State hold luncheon meeting in New York

Hosted by the President of the Republic, the Heads of State of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) met at a working lunch in New York, where they are taking part in the 63rd United Nations General Assembly.

Portugal holds during the next two years the rotating Presidency of CPLP and the working lunch was a means of bringing together the common initiatives of the eight Member States of the Group, within the scope of the United Nations.

Angola and Guinea-Bissau were represented by their Ministers of Foreign Affairs and, at the invitation of President Aníbal Cavaco Silva the lunch meeting was also attended by the Special Envoy of the Secretary General of the United Nations for the Fight Against Tuberculosis and for the Alliance of Civilizations, Jorge Sampaio, and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, António Guterres.
