The President of the Republic was awarded the Gold Medal of the Spanish city of León, at a ceremony held in the San Marcelo Consistory, the former Ayuntamiento (headquarters of the City Council).

Before the ceremony a meeting took place with the Mayor of the city, D. Francisco Fernandez Alvarez.
