Student Movement and Social Intervention – Porto Academic Federation (FAP)

The Portuguese student movement nowadays holds a very relevant role in the various dimensions of social intervention.

Portugal is one of the few countries in the world where the great majority of leaders of student and other associations are totally voluntary.

Student associations are synonymous with the political participation of young people and students, not just in matters of educational policy but also in the case of social issues.

It is fundamental that society recognizes this extremely enriching circumstance of an associative experience and that no further difficulties should subsist in obtaining due value for these acquired skills.

The Associations of the Porto Academic Federation comprise multiple initiatives in the areas of social aid/social integration, some of which will be presented on this route, such as the “Aconchego” (Fostering) Project, an instance of inter-generational and friendly conviviality, and others with innovative characteristics and significant social diffusion, such as the Children’s Hospital and Peripheral medicine, Blood Donations, collection of clothes, toys and food, screening for registration in the National Bank of Donors of Bone Marrow, collection of funds for private institutions of social solidarity, projects of voluntary study, etc.

Also to be launched is a Practical Guide for entry into the labour market, an initiative of support for insertion in the labour market.
