Decoration ceremony

President Cavaco Silva paid tribute to Romanian translators and publishers dedicated to Portuguese language and culture

As included in the programme of the State Visit to Romania, the President closed the colloquium “Portugal and Romania: an eternal recurrence”, and paid tribute to several Romanian translators and editors dedicated to Portuguese language, literature and culture.

In a ceremony held in the Central University Library, in Bucharest, President Cavaco Silva presented cultural merit diplomas to translators Anca Milu Vaidesegan, Dinu Flamand, Georgiana Barbulescu, Simina Popa, Mioara Caragea and Micaela Ghitescu, as well as publishers Polirom and Humanitas Fiction.

Later, the President decorated the literary translator Micaela Ghitescu with the grade of Grand Officer of the Order of Prince Henry the navigator, and the professor and lecturer in Portuguese language and literature António Canhestro Ferro with the grade of Grand Officer of the Order of Public Education.

On the occasion the President of the Republic addressed a speech.
