The President of the Republic addressed a message of congratulations to Philippe, the new King of Belgium.

Following is the text of the message from President Cavaco Silva:

“Majesty,

On the joyful occasion of Your Majesty’s investiture as King of Belgium, I wish you, on behalf of the People of Portugal and in my own personal name, our congratulations and sincerest hope for your success in this significant moment of generational renewal, which will assuredly become a marker in your Country’s history.

I take this opportunity to reiterate to Your Majesty the relevance that both Portugal and I, personally, attribute to the historical and friendly links that exist between Portugal and Belgium, both bilaterally and within the framework of the European Union.

Again renewing my sincere wishes for happiness and health, I beg you to accept, Majesty, my highest regards and feelings of close esteem.
