The President of the Republic addressed a message of condolences to the Family of Cinema Director Fernando Lopes

Following is the text of the message of condolences sent by President Aníbal Cavaco Silva:

“Upon being advised of the passing away of movie maker Fernando Lopes I address the bereaved Family my deepest condolences.

A top individuality in our cultural life, master of images, author of outstanding works that will continue existing in the memory of generations, the name of Fernando Lopes will always be related to a movement of renewal of Portuguese cinema that is surprising and moving for its beauty and deepness of thought.

Throughout his vast career, he was not just one of the founders of the New Cinema, but was also distinguished for his television work and by the subtlety of his view over Portugal and the world.
