The President of the Republic sent to the President of the United States, George W. Bush, a message of condolences following the consequences of the tragic events in the Virginia Tech University.

The text of the message was:

"Mr. President,

I was deeply shocked with the tragic events occurred in the campus of the Virginia Tech University, in the State of Virginia.

In this moment of suffering, I wish to express to Your Excellency and to the victims’ families, on behalf of the Portuguese People as well as in my own name, our deepest sympathy and our sincere condolences and heartfelt friendship.
