The President of the Republic addressed a message of congratulations to athletes Francis Obikwelu and Naide Gomes, medal winners in the European Athletics Indoor Championship held in Paris.

Following is the text of the message sent by President Aníbal Cavaco Silva:

"I congratulate athlete Francis Obikwelu for his brilliant conquest of the Gold Medal in the 60 meter dash, included in the European Athletics Indoor Championship.

Equally deserving of attention is the result reached by athlete Naide Gomes, in the long jump competition, which allowed her to win a silver medal.

The two athletes whose careers are already consecrated in international championships have thus once again honoured the name of Portugal.
