The President of the Republic sent a message of condolences to the President of the Italian Republic, Giorgio Napolitano, regarding the earthquake in the Central Region.

Following is the text of the message:

"Mister President

I was deeply shocked when advised of the earthquake that ravaged, early this morning, the Central Region of Italy, particularly the City of L’Aquila.

In this hour of sadness for the People of Italy, I wish to address Your Excellency, on behalf of the People of Portugal and in my own personal name, our deepest feelings of grief and solidarity.
