The President of the Republic sent a message of condolences to the Family of the former Speaker of Parliament, Dr. Fernando Amaral.

Following is the text of the President’s message:

"Upon receiving the sad news of the passing away of Dr. Fernando Amaral, I wish to express, on behalf of the people of Portugal and in my own personal name, our heartfelt condolences.

I tender my tribute to the memory of the citizen, public personage and political individuality that was the former Speaker of Parliament, recalling the services that, throughout his life, he rendered to the Country.

I assure the Family of Dr. Fernando Amaral of my deepest sympathy,
