The President of the Republic congratulated the athlete Nelson Évora for having conquered the Gold Medal in the Triple Jump in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

Following is the text of the message sent:

"In my personal name and on behalf of all the Portuguese I wish to congratulate you for having conquered the Gold Medal for the Triple Jump in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

This great feat in the field of sports, based upon your athletic and personal qualities, has decisively contributed towards the national and international value of Portuguese athletes.

I equally wish to congratulate you for your exceptional career, consolidated by the number of trophies you have won, and confirming your extraordinary athletic talents of which the Portuguese are so proud.
