Mister President,

I was deeply moved when being advised of the tragic attempt that victimized Mrs. Benazir Bhutto and other defenceless persons. The search for national reconciliation and the consolidation of the democratic process will be the best answer that can be given to the performers of this heinous act.

In this hour of suffering and of mourning, I wish to express to Your Excellency, to the families of the victims and to the People of Pakistan, on behalf of the People of Portugal and in my own personal name, our feelings of friendship and deepest sorrow.
