It is my wish to congratulate the historian Irene Flunser Pimentel, who has been awarded the 2007 Pessoa Prize.

The award of this Prize recognizes the relevant contribution provided by Irene Pimentel for a better understanding of the Contemporary History of Portugal, especially that period known as “Estado Novo” (New State).

Through her research and published works, she has given Portuguese historiography a new dimension.

My congratulations go to historian Irene Pimentel.
