Madam President and Dear Friend,
 
I was deeply concerned with the news of the violent earthquake which was yesterday so devastatingly felt in the Northern region of Chile, causing great material and human losses.

In this hour of pain, I wish to express to Your Excellency and to the People of Chile, on behalf of the People of Portugal and in my own personal name, our deepest sympathy as well as our feelings of solidarity.
