The President of the Republic began, in Sofia, a State Visit to Bulgaria holding a meeting with President Rosen Plevneliev, followed by an expanded meeting with both countries’ delegations.

Prior to this, the Portuguese Head of State had been welcomed by his host in an official reception ceremony in S. Al. Nevski Square, where he was awarded military honours and rendered tribute to the Unknown Soldier by laying a wreath in the respective monument.

After the meetings, both Presidents witnessed the signature, by the Portuguese Minister of Foreign Affairs and by the Bulgarian Deputy-Minister of Foreign Affairs, of the VIII Programme of Cultural Cooperation in the areas of language, education (science), culture, sports, youth and the media for the years 2015-2018.

Following this both Heads of State held a press conference.
