The President of the Republic received, in audience, the delegates of the political parties represented in the Legislative Assembly of the Madeira Autonomous Region, to hear their views on the political situation created by the resignation of the Regional Government and with the aim to set the date for the elections of that regional body.

Delegates from the following parties were successively received by the President: PPD/PSD – Social Democrat Party, CDS/PP – Popular Party, PS – Socialist Party, PTP – Portuguese Labour Party, CDU – Unitary Democratic Coalition, PND – New Democracy Party, PAN – People-Animals-Nature Party, and MPT – Earth Party.
