State Visit to Portugal of the President of the Federal Republic of Germany

The President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Joachim Gauck, and Mrs. Daniela Gauck, will hold a State Visit to Portugal between 23 and 25 June at the invitation of President Cavaco Silva.

The Visit’s official programme will start on 24 June, with the laying of a wreath by President Joachim Gauck, on the tomb of Luis Vaz de Camões, in Jerónimos Monastery. President and Mrs. Gauck will then be received, in the Palace of Belém, by President and Mrs. Cavaco Silva, this being followed by a working meeting between the two Heads of State.

President Joachim Gauck will later be received by the Portuguese Prime Minister who will host a luncheon in his honour.

On that same afternoon, President Gauck will meet with the Speaker of the House of Parliament. Later on, the President of the Republic and the President of the German Federal Republic will preside at the official closure of the 60 Year Conference of the Luso-German Chamber of Commerce.

The programme of the first day will end with a dinner, in Ajuda Palace, hosted by the President of the Republic and Mrs. Cavaco Silva, held in honour of the German President and Mrs. Daniela Gauck.

On 25 June, the President of the Republic will accompany the German President on a visit to Autoeuropa.

On his visit to Portugal the retinue of the President of the Federal Republic of Germany will comprise members of the German Government, members of the German Parliament and an entrepreneurial delegation.
