Arrival at Mindelo

President Cavaco Silva received in São Vicente where he opened the refurbishment of the replica of the Tower of Belém

Continuing his State Visit to Cape Verde, the President of the Republic was welcomed by hundreds of people in the streets of Mindelo and was later received in São Vicente County Council where he delivered a speech.

The President and Mrs. Cavaco Silva travelled by air to São Vicente together with the President of Cape Verde and Mrs. Adélcia Pires.

At the welcoming ceremony, in the main reception rooms of the City Hall, the County Council and the Camões Institute signed a protocol for the assignment of a plot of land to build the future Portuguese Cultural Centre in Mindelo.

Later, after walking through the city streets, President Aníbal Cavaco Silva, together with President Pedro Pires of Cape Verde, presided jointly at the inaugural act of the refurbished replica of the Tower of Belém in the city of Mindelo.
