The President of the Republic sent a message of congratulations to athlete Nelson Évora, who achieved the bronze medal in the Athletics World Championships, now being held in Beijing.

Following is the text of the message from President Cavaco Silva:

“I congratulate athlete Nelson Évora for the splendid classification obtained in the Athletics World Championships, being held in Beijing, an addition to the many other notable results in the large number of trials he has attended.

Climbing the podium in this triple jump world championship, after a period of suffering from serious injuries, he once again demonstrated the very high level he has achieved in sports and the extraordinary drive which has characterized his course as an athlete, with technique, effort and self-denial.

The bronze medal now conquered enhances the qualities of his work and perseverance: to the athlete that has helped placing forward Portugal’s name, I wish to address my congratulations and the best of personal sports and well-being.
