President sent condolences to King Juan Carlos of Spain upon the death of Adolfo Suarez

The President of the Republic addressed a message of condolences to King D. Juan Carlos I of Spain upon the passing away of the Spanish politician Adolfo Suarez.

Following is the text of the message sent by President Cavaco Silva:

“Majesty, Dear Friend,

I was deeply saddened when receiving the news of the death of Adolfo Suarez, an important figure in Spanish politics and history.

In this hour of mourning I address you, on behalf of the Portuguese people and in my own personal name, our deepest feelings of regret, begging you to forward my condolences to the bereaved family.

I beg Your Majesty to accept my highest regards and personal friendship.

Aníbal Cavaco Silva”
