President of the Republic sent condolences upon the death of Prof. António Borges

The President of the Republic addressed a message of condolences to the Family of economist Prof. António Borges.

Following is the text of the message of condolences from President Cavaco Silva:

“It was with deep regret that I received the news of the passing away of Professor António Borges, one of the most brilliant economists in his generation, who was awarded international recognition and respect, particularly in view of his having exercised, during many years, the prestigious office of Dean of INSEAD.

Professor António Borges was an outstanding individuality in Portuguese public life, due to his rare professional competence and unshakeable firmness in his convictions. An academician of excellence he rendered, throughout decades, deep influence on generations of students in one of the best schools of economy and management. He held ambitions for a prosperous and better developed Portugal and never gave up his fight for this ideal.

On behalf of the Portuguese and in my own personal name I address the Family of Professor António Borges our very deepest condolences.

Aníbal Cavaco Silva”
