The President of the Republic addressed a message of condolences to the President of the Republic of Mozambique, Armando Emílio Guebuza, over the victims of the floods occurred in several areas of the country.

Following is the message of condolences from President Cavaco Silva.

“Mister President,

I have accompanied with deep distress the effects of the floods in Mozambique, which have mustered the attention of all our people. I thus want to forward to Your Excellency and to all our Mozambican brethren, on behalf of the People of Portugal and in my own personal name, our deepest feelings and the expression of our utmost solidarity, certain that Mozambique will, once again, be able to overcome this adversity.

In this effort, Your Excellency may count as always upon Portugal’s contribution to lessen the suffering of the stricken population, for which purpose the first humanitarian aid party will take off for Mozambique in the next few days.

In these difficult days, our thoughts dwell with the People of Mozambique and, in particular, with the families of all those who have suffered irretrievable losses, to whom we beg Your Excellency to forward our most sincere condolences.

Aníbal Cavaco Silva”
