The President of the Republic addressed a message of condolences to the Family of cinema director Paulo Rocha.

Following is the text of the message from President Cavaco Silva:

“Upon being advised of the passing away of Paulo Rocha I want to express my deepest condolences to his Family.

Paulo Rocha was not just one of the foremost names in Portuguese cinema. He was equally one of those persons who best contributed towards its enwall, in the Sixties, and who was better able to figure in the seventh art the Country’s deepest realities and concerns.

In this moment of mourning for Portuguese culture, I render my sincere tribute to the man who directed “The Green Years” and several other films that marked successive Portuguese generations and decisively influenced our cinema.
