The President of the Republic decorated the former President General António Ramalho Eanes and the last Governor of Macau, Lieutenant General Vasco Rocha Vieira, in a ceremony held in the Palace of Belém.

General António Ramalho Eanes was awarded the Grand Collar of the Order of Freedom and Lieutenant General Vasco Rocha Vieira the Grand Cross of the Military Order of Torre e Espada, of Value, Loyalty and Merit.

During the ceremony President Cavaco Silva delivered an address.
