The President of the Republic held a meeting, in the Palace of Belém, with approximately 30 leaders of Youth Associations to discuss the topic of civic and political participation of youths and the reasons that motivate them or keep them away from a greater involvement.

The meeting, the theme of which was “Youth and Politics”, was attended by leaders of political, academic, voluntary workers, unions and entrepreneurial and associative youth organizations, all represented in the National Youth Council.

When the meeting was opened, Prof. Pedro Magalhães, from the Catholic University, presented the results of the Research Project on the subject “Youth and Politics”, carried out by the respective Centre for Research and Opinion Polls.

Participants at the meeting divided themselves into working parties which approached the topics of youth and local, national, European and international politics after which they submitted their results for collective discussion.
