President Cavaco Silva attended the Empowerment Ceremony of President of the Republic Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, held in Parliament House.

Received with military honours upon his arrival at the Palace of S. Bento, President Cavaco Silva was accompanied into the building by the Speaker, Dr. Eduardo Ferro Rodrigues, and was then led, together with President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, to the Presidential Tribune in the Hall of Sessions.

At the end of the ceremony, after the empowerment of the new President of the Republic, President Cavaco Silva received farewell compliments from the higher individualities of the State, upon which he took his leave of Parliament House.
